We do not want to sugarcoat this. As of December 2022, the first-time pass rate for the NMLS licensing exam is 57%, so almost half of students fail the first time but pass rates increase for the second attempt. Visit the NMLS site for up to date statistics: NMLS First Time Pass Rate. Make sure that you intensively study for the exam and take it very seriously. Practice tests are also a good tool. You should also review the topic outlines that NMLS provides free. Please do not underestimate the rigorous nature of the exam. We strongly recommend that you use a test-prep or test-review program to supplement your pre-license education, so that the important mortgage concepts become second nature.

You are given 190 minutes to take the NMLS exam. The NMLS exam has 120 questions and is given on a computer. You need to score at least 75% to pass the NMLS exam. You will see your results right after you complete the exam on the computer screen.

No worries. You can take it again and again. Please just be aware that you must wait 30 days between NMLS exam attempts but after the third failed attempt, the waiting period is 180 days.
